Four COVID cases reported on Sunshine Coast

Latest report shows increasing vaccination rate

Between Aug. 1 and 7, four new cases were reported on the Sunshine Coast.

The first week of August saw four new cases of COVID-19 reported for the lower Sunshine Coast. The previous week, between July 25 and 31, there were two new cases reported on the Coast.

During the same timeframe, between Aug. 1 and 7, Powell River also reported four cases.

The weekly map also shows there are four cases in the Vancouver Coastal Health region with missing address information. 

Between Aug. 3 and 9, the average daily case rate for 100,000 population showed two cases for the Sunshine Coast, and three for Powell River.

The vaccination rate on the Sunshine Coast continues to rise. 

As of Aug. 9, between 55 and 83 per cent of Sunshine Coast residents (not including children under 12 years old) had received their second dose of the vaccine. 

By age category, the vaccination rate for those 12 and older ranged from 81 per cent for the first dose and 71 per cent for the second.

For those 18 and older, 82 per cent received the first dose and 73 received their second.

Between the ages of 18 and 49, 71 per cent of residents received their first dose, and 55 per cent (the lowest local rate of those eligible for vaccinations) had their second jab.

The age range with the highest vaccination coverage is the 50+ category, with 88 per cent for the first dose, and 83 per cent for the second.
