RCMP are asking the public for information after an inner tube broke loose from the top of a boat trailer on Hwy. 101 and struck a motorcycle, sending the rider to hospital.

The incident happened on Monday, Aug. 17 at about 7:30 p.m. at Snodgrass Road and Sunshine Coast Highway.

Witnesses told Sunshine Coast RCMP that a white pickup truck pulling a boat trailer pulled out of the Selma Park boat launch and was driving east towards Davis Bay. A large yellow inner tube was on the roof of the boat.

“Although it was initially tethered, it was flying around behind the truck like a kite,” police said. “Witnesses were able to swerve to avoid hitting it but then the inner tube broke loose and struck a motorcycle, causing it to crash.”

Police said multiple drivers honked their horns at the truck but it drove on, possibly unaware of what had just occurred.

The motorcycle rider was transported to Sechelt Hospital.

Anyone with further information about this incident is asked to call the RCMP at 604-885-2266.
