Donations flooding in for fundraiser

A generous donation from Sue and Jesse Perry has left Team Boobie Prize just $2,000 shy of their fundraising goals to walk in the Weekend to End Breast Cancer event Aug. 19 to 21.

A generous donation from Sue and Jesse Perry has left Team Boobie Prize just $2,000 shy of their fundraising goals to walk in the Weekend to End Breast Cancer event Aug. 19 to 21.

The Perrys were planning to walk in the event themselves but the commitment to raise $2,000 each to participate was too much.

"Sue's work schedule and the time restrictions for fundraising were very demanding. They had talked it over between the two of them and had decided that if they couldn't raise enough money they would just make a general donation to the Weekend to End Breast Cancer," said Team Boobie Prize captain Lorrie Brown-Limbeek.

She spoke with the Perrys and they decided to give the money, $765.50 to Team Boobie Prize instead.

"They phoned us the next day and donated the money that they had raised from their silent auction and all-ages dance at The Club," said Brown-Limbeek.

She decided to participate in the Weekend to End Breast cancer after her sister Tammy succumbed to the disease at the age of 26.

Her daughter Racheal Young and her friend Jeannie Juillette also decided to take part in the three-day 60 km journey through the streets of Vancouver once they heard of Brown-Limbeek's plans.

Young said she wanted to do the walk to honour her aunt's memory and to support her mother, while friend Juillette said she "just had to be there too," supporting her friend.

The three women formed Team Boobie Prize and soon realized they would have to each raise $2,000 for cancer research to take part.

With this recent donation from the Perrys, Brown-Limbeek says her team has raised $3,950.

Most of that money came from garage sales, a bake sale, an all-ages dance held at Sechelt Elementary a bowling night, individual donations and a silent auction held on Canada Day at Hackett Park.

The team needs $6,000 to participate together and Brown-Limbeek is hopeful the goal can be reached.

To find out more about the team, their individual reasons for walking and to make a donation you can go to www.endcancer.ca and input the team name. Donations can also be dropped off at Janitors Warehouse in Sechelt.
