A Halfmoon Bay resident shot and killed his neighbour’s nine-month-old husky with a shotgun after mistaking it for a coyote.

Police were called to a rural residence on Dec. 20 at 3:30 p.m. The neighbour told them he saw the animal going after his chickens, according to an RCMP release.

The dog, named Luna, was rushed to a vet clinic but died from her injuries, the release said.

RCMP are still investigating and will be working with partners at BC Conservation Service and the SPCA.
