The Sunshine Coast Lions Club — and bright sunshine — attracted 32 teams to its annual sandcastle competition at Davis Bay on July 27. After the start signal at 12:30, teams had three hours for focused sculpting. Youth team winners were The Builders, Lego Masters, and Sand Witches. In the Group category, top finishers were Team Huntenbach, Deep Water, and Shark Attack. The Family category was led by Team Reliable, Mufasa, and Power Rangers.
