Sunshine Coast RCMP are investigating the theft of this 2010 John Deere tractor with the license place X49097. The red overseeder was not attached at the time of the theft.

“Stolen!” the District of Sechelt tweeted on March 23, spreading the news of their missing tractor.

The green 2010 John Deere tractor with license plate X49097 was last seen Monday, March 22 at 3 p.m., according to a Sunshine Coast RCMP release.

The tractor, along with a new Mercury 20HP boat motor, were taken from the Sechelt public works yard on Allen Road.

Julie Rogers, communications manager for the District of Sechelt, told Coast Reporter it’s believed the tractor was loaded onto a trailer.

She said the district is working with the RCMP, and has provided video surveillance. The RCMP will also be reviewing video footage from nearby businesses, she said.

The tractor is used for the public works and parks departments, for tasks including clearing trails of debris and overseeding sports fields. The District of Sechelt only has one tractor.

“It is a highly used piece of equipment. We’re anxious to either get it back or get it replaced very quickly,” Rogers said.

The Sunshine Coast RCMP are investigating the theft, and ask anyone with information to contact 604-885-2266.
