Another two weeks have passed on the Sunshine Coast without COVID-19 cases reported by the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC).

From June 20 to 26 there were no cases of COVID-19 reported while BCCDC data showed the daily rate of cases per 100,000 people stood at zero from June 25 to July 1.

BCCDC data also showed zero cases in most local health areas in the Vancouver Coastal Health region the week of June 20, including Powell River, Howe Sound and the Coast. North Vancouver had eight cases while three were reported in West Vancouver.

Only a handful of cases have been identified on the Sunshine Coast since May 23, with three reported that week and zero cases the following two weeks. From June 13 to 19 two cases were reported.

Provincially, numbers have also been on the decline, with 49 cases reported over a 24-hour period ending June 30 and 35 cases reported the following day.

Vaccination coverage continues to climb, meanwhile, with 79 per cent of adults receiving at least one dose on the Sunshine Coast, and 78 per cent of everyone at least 12 years old.

While the average for adults is higher than that of the province, which stands at 78.7 per cent as of July 2, the Coast’s vaccination coverage is the third lowest in the Vancouver Coastal Health region among local health areas.

Bella Coola Valley has the lowest coverage for adults 18 and older at 70 per cent, followed by Powell River’s coverage at 75 per cent.
