Next week, about 2,500 residents of the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) will be getting a notice on their garbage bins.

As of August, changes to curbside garbage collection will come into effect for parts of Halfmoon Bay, Elphinstone and West Howe Sound, which will move to Week 2 in the schedule.

“The day of the week that your garbage is collected will not change – only which week to place garbage out,” Robyn Cooper, manager of solid waste services, said in a July 19 press release. “Garbage is still collected every-other-week and the Green Bin [is] collected weekly.”

As a result of the change, garbage collection for some homes will skip an additional week at the beginning of August.

“Residents should be prepared for different collection times as drivers adjust to their new routes and your patience during this transition is greatly appreciated,” Cooper said.

In an email to Coast Reporter, Cooper said, “Routes will be able to be completed in a shorter timeframe, building in capacity to provide a quicker recovery plan should there be any missed collections or service interruptions.”
