Creeker faces attempted murder charge

A 22-year-old Roberts Creek man has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault following an alleged assault early Monday morning. Nathan Cookney is in custody and will appear in North Vancouver provincial court today (June 24).

A 22-year-old Roberts Creek man has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault following an alleged assault early Monday morning.

Nathan Cookney is in custody and will appear in North Vancouver provincial court today (June 24). A 19-year-old female has also been arrested and charged with obstruction. She will appear in Sechelt provincial court on June 28.

Just before 1:30 a.m. on Monday, Sunshine Coast RCMP were called to a report of an assault on Flume Road in Roberts Creek.

"Upon arrival, members found a lone male lying on the road in a pool of blood," said Sgt. Danny Willis. "The victim, 38-year-old Edward Clarke, was taken by ambulance to St. Mary's Hospital, then flown to Vancouver General Hospital. Mr. Clarke suffered severe head trauma and is in grave condition." Willis said police investigation revealed that Clarke was socializing at Roberts Creek beach.

"He left the beach with some other people. Mr. Clarke had an argument and headed home alone," Willis added. "The offender met up with him and the alleged assault occurred. Mr. Clarke was struck about the head with an object."
