The latest B.C. Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) report shows 27 new cases of COVID-19 on the Sunshine Coast – the highest weekly count since data about local health authorities became public in November 2020.
Previously, the highest number of cases reported in a week on the Sunshine Coast was 22 cases between Aug. 22 and 28.
For the week of Oct. 17 to 23, the Howe Sound area reported 42 new cases while Powell River reported one new case. There were nine cases reported in Vancouver Coastal Health with missing address information.
The BCCDC does not supply local data for vaccination status or severity of reported cases.
Between January 2020 and September 2021, a total of 321 cases of COVID-19 were reported on the Sunshine Coast.
As of Oct. 25, 88 per cent of Coast residents 12 and older had received their first jab, and 83 per cent had both.
Between the ages of 12 and 17, 81 per cent of Sunshine Coast residents had one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 72 per cent had two doses.
Among adults 18 to 49, 82 per cent had one dose and 74 per cent had both.
The percentage of Coasters 50-plus who have received the vaccine is 91 per cent for the first jab and 89 per cent for the second.
