The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is focusing its efforts on four road washouts on the Coast, the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) said in its latest update on Nov. 16.

Day Road, Redrooffs Road, Lower Road at Stephens Road and Beach Road are still closed to traffic, as crews continue to address damage caused by heavy rains earlier in the week.

An access route is open at Roberts Creek Campground for residents of Beach Avenue, Park Avenue and Henderson Road until Beach Avenue can be partially reopened.

A number of roads are still single-lane only, and the SCRD is asking drivers to give themselves more time to travel, and to pay attention to traffic signs, cones and road conditions.

Water

SCRD crews are still working to secure water infrastructure, including a water main on Blackburn Road in Roberts Creek.

Water boil advisories are still in effect for parts of Halfmoon Bay, Gibsons, Elphinstone and West Howe Sound, and may last for several days as Vancouver Coastal Health continues regular water testing.

Parks

Some members of the public are still accessing the three closed SCRD parks, despite safety warnings.

On Nov. 15, the SCRD closed Cliff Gilkers Park in Roberts Creek, and Elphinstone’s Chaster Park and Chaster House. Those locations are still closed, and have been taped off with caution tape. An update from the SCRD on Nov. 16 at 4:30 p.m. said there is a considerable amount of debris in those areas.

All of the Smugglers Cove Park trails are closed, and BC Parks has closed some trails at Porpoise Bay Provincial Park as well.
