Change was the order of the day in Sechelt on election night.

Incumbent Mayor Cam Reid went down to defeat as Coun. Darren Inkster takes the top seat as the new mayor. Inkster won by more than 900 votes. There were two incumbent councillors re-elected and four new faces. Keith Thirkell and Warren Allan were re-elected, while Fred Taylor, Alice Janisch, Alice Lutes and Ann Kershaw are the new councillors. Incumbents Ed Steeves and Mike Shanks were not a factor finishing eighth and 10th respectively.

In Gibsons, Mayor Barry Janyk was re-elected narrowly holding off Coun. Gerry Tretick by 34 votes. Incumbent councillors LeeAnn Johnson and Chris Koopmans were re-elected while Wayne Rowe and Kenan MacKenzie round-out the council table. Incumbent Coun. Bob Curry finished a close fifth.

At the Sunshine Coast Regional District, there is little change. Garry Nohr was re-elected in Halfmoon Bay, Lorne Lewis was re-elected in Elphinstone, while Eric Graham won in Pender Harbour/Egmont taking over the seat from the retiring John Rees. Donna Shugar was acclaimed in Roberts Creek before the election while Lee Turnbull was acclaimed in West Howe Sound two weeks ago.

School District No. 46 will see some change.

Dave Mewhort and Silas White were re-elected in Sechelt, as was Greg Russell in rural area two. New trustees include Lori Fielding in rural area one, Fran Heppell in rural area two and Jason Scott in rural area two. Ken Sinnott was acclaimed in Gibsons and rounds out the seven-member board of trustees.

Finally, the Gambier Island Local Trust area elected two members and they were Jan Hagedorn and Joyce Clegg.
