Plans for a regional retail centre at what is now known as the Eco Village on Field Road will soon be coming to council for consideration.

In 2004 the District zoned the 11.9-hectare property CD-4 to allow development of the Eco Village project- -a light industrial business park. In 2007 development permits were approved, but little construction has been done at the site.

"Everest Realty Advisors Ltd., represented by Ian Porter, has optioned the property and has applied for rezoning to commercial/retail in order to market the property to large format, 'big box' retailers," wrote director of development services Ray Parfitt in his report to council on June 27.

Council endorsed some recommendations for the proposal during their July 4 regular council meeting.

Those recommendations include having the application come forward for first reading, posting a sign advertising the rezoning prior to first reading and asking that a traffic impact study be completed before public hearing.

The recommendations also state that final adoption is conditional on the developer dedicating parkland along the nearby creek and a establishing a looped gravel trail around the perimeter of the site.
