After 12 years of dedicated public service to his community, Sechelt's outgoing mayor Darren Inkster is looking forward to spending more time with his two young sons.

As the Town of Gibsons welcomes a new mayor, it's the end of an era for residents and for Barry Janyk, who held the chair for four terms.

Sechelt has a new leader. John Henderson was voted mayor of Sechelt Nov. 19 with 1,503 votes compared to incumbent Darren Inkster's 908. Candidates Douglas Smith and Ed Steeves garnered 724 and 406 respectively.

Three new faces will join four returning trustees at the school board next month when Betty Baxter, Lori Dixon and Christine Younghusband are sworn in along with incumbents Greg Russell, Silas White, Lori Pratt and Dave Mewhort Dec. 6.

The Town of Gibsons has a new mayor, as Wayne Rowe defeated incumbent and four-term mayor Barry Janyk by 365 votes in last Saturday's municipal election.

A new Gibsons council takes the reins on Dec. 6 with two new faces after the Nov. 19 municipal election. Topping the polls were incumbents Gerry Tretick and LeeAnn Johnson, who mustered 989 and 954 votes respectively in the polls.
