Last year the SCAF held an Emergency Preparedness town hall.

Are you ready?

If you’re not, May 10 at the Sechelt Seniors Activity Centre, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. will be the place to be.

The volunteers of the Sechelt Community Associations Forum (SCAF) are hosting their second annual emergency preparedness event, this one a full-fledged fair delving into all things emergency preparedness.

The SCAF started planning for the event, which takes place during Emergency Preparedness Week (May 4 to 10), before February’s earthquake, but the quake crystalized the need for preparedness.

The event will focus on personal preparedness, and will include information displays (from marine search and rescue, Sunshine Coast Community Solar Association, FireSmart, RCMP and SCRD) and will have emergency kits for purchase.

The SCAF is offering the kits at a reasonable cost, thanks to a discount from 72 Hours Canada.

The “household” emergency kits contain a hand-crank radio/phone charger/flashlight, first aid kit, multi-tool, whistle, six-pack of water, mylar blanket, poncho, face mask and tissues, all in a backpack.

Two donated kits will also be raffled off.

“SCAF’s ultimate goal is to help as many residents as possible to get prepared for a large emergency. We hope this event will be one of the building blocks for community safety,” shared event organizers.
