The Coast Symphony Orchestra will present its spring concert May 26 under the baton of conductor Jonathan Der.

Two extremes of creativity in nature photography are on display at the Gibsons Public Art Gallery (GPAG) through the month of May. One is minimalist, the other maximalist, and each artist presents images that are striking and unique.

The month-long Sunshine Coast Festival of the Performing Arts topped off its 46th season with a Highlights Concert on Sunday, May 12, at the Heritage Playhouse in Gibsons.

Members of the Sunshine Coast Quilters’ Guild showed their stuff May 11 and 12, packing the floor of the arena at Gibsons Community Centre with quilts of all shapes, colours and sizes. More than 235 quilts, all by local crafters, were on display.

Artist Nancy Hugh has never been one to take a conventional approach. Born and raised in Hawaii, Hugh spent many summers at her family cottage on the shore of Halfmoon Bay on the Sunshine Coast, where she now lives full time.

May’s documentary film at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre is Meet Beau Dick: Maker of Monsters, an intimate look into the life of Alert Bay native carver Benjamin Kerry Dick, whose influential work was seen as traditional and yet contemporary.
