The Sechelt Downtown Business Association (SDBA) in partnership with the shíshálh Nation and District of Sechelt selected Charlie Craigan’s killer whale design, which will be displayed on 25 banners throughout the downtown Sechelt area in the coming months as part of the Downtown Sechelt Banner Project.

Vice-president of the SDBA Cindy Buis said: “Charlie is very talented. It is great to have such a strong banner design for Downtown Sechelt.”

The SDBA received many submissions for the banner project that were both creative and unique, but Craigan’s piece won over the judges. Craigan started drawing and painting at the age of six and mentioned artist Robert Davidson as his inspiration on the winning piece that will be displayed throughout downtown. The SDBA awarded Craigan with a $500 cheque as the prize for the winning art piece. The banner will be on display starting this May.

The Sechelt Downtown Business Association’s goal is to create a unique, vibrant, attractive and viable downtown that offers a full range of services and shopping opportunities to all residents and visitors to our community. The SDBA provides opportunities for merchants and service providers to showcase their businesses, encourages residents and tourists to shop in a warm and friendly downtown environment, and provides information, education and inspirational seminars for members.

Anyone interested in volunteering for events in downtown Sechelt, such as Canada Day, Oktoberfest and Festival of Lights, please contact the SDBA at [email protected], or call 604-885-9611.
