Students in the BladeRunners program would like to thank all the hardworking people in the local Sechelt shops for their assistance in helping them gain valuable job training.

Many low-income families and seniors on the Sunshine Coast will receive extra help getting fresh, local food on the table this summer, thanks to a new provincial coupon program announced on July 4 by Health Minister Mike de Jong.

When the Gibsons Heritage Society names the 2012 Golden Girl honouring a senior woman from the area later this month at Sea Cavalcade, she will be part of a fine company of stellar women.

What an honour and privilege! The 2012 Pulling Together journey took almost 40 people from the Sechelt and Gibsons area to the beautiful territory of the Sliammon people near Powell River on the Upper Sunshine Coast recently.

Four dragon boat teams from the Sunshine Coast left their mark at the 10th annual Regatta July 7 and 8. Sea Gals, a women's team in its third year, enjoyed the fastest race and placed first in the Jade B division.

Renowned author Tim Bowling, who made Gibsons his home for several years, returns to the Sunshine Coast to give a reading at the Gibsons Public Library on Wednesday, July 25, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The Sunshine Coast will be treated to two surprise shows this weekend by an internationally acclaimed jazz artist who wants to come here because he just loves the Sunshine Coast and its people.

Local coach and trainer Margaret Page has a busy year coming up. As of July 1, Page became the District 21 governor of Toastmasters International. Her territory covers the entire province of B.C. and includes 285 clubs and almost 5,000 members.

Back by popular demand, the Sunshine Coast Museum and Archives in Gibsons presents another sacred drum workshop next Saturday. Tsawaysia Spukwus will lead the workshop on Saturday, July 14, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the museum.
