‘Word Race’ a chance for safe Easter fun

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful week. Wow, another windstorm and a few power outages but no reports of major damage from trees or branches falling down. We had quite the mess to clean up in our yard though. Let’s hope Mother Nature settles down a little and provides us with some beautiful days in April.

The Halfmoon Bay Community School is inviting families and community members to participate in their “HMB Easter Word Race” in the trails behind the school. The “Race” will be running for one week from March 31 to April 7. Wendy White, school coordinator, said that, “unfortunately, the Easter Bunny can’t have a big Easter Egg Hunt this year but that doesn’t mean we can’t have some safe Easter fun!” The Easter Bunny has hidden some eggs with Easter riddles on them and clues to help you solve them. If you would like to participate, send an email to Wendy at wwhite@sd46.bc.ca for a map. Write your answers on the spots provided on the map and return to the school library, or email back to Wendy and you will receive an Easter surprise!

The Halfmoon Bay Community Association received some great news on March 25. The SCRD Board of Directors has approved the budget which includes the Coopers Green Hall Project. After many years of planning and raising funds, all involved are extremely happy to move ahead. HBCoA will now continue their fundraising efforts for this very special project.

Lisa Johnson-Stott, author of Painted Skies Over Halfmoon Bay, BC, advised that, “orders are going well as there has been a flurry of people sharing on social media and within their email groups. If you would like your own copy of this beautiful limited-edition book, please get your order in as soon as possible!” All profits from the book will go towards the Coopers Green Hall Project. To order, please send an email to hmbsunsetbook@gmail.com. If you would like to view the book before buying it, stop by Coopers Green Park on Saturday, April 3 or Sunday, April 4 between 10 a.m. and noon as there will be “tailgate sales” by Lisa and some helpers on those days. Lisa said, “If you bring your little ones, there may also be an Easter Bunny handing out treats.”

After Spring Break, the spike in COVID cases has prompted the implementation of more restrictions, so that will affect how families and friends will visit over the Easter weekend. Stay close to home, order takeout, visit outside, meet over Zoom, or talk on the phone. We are all in this together and must continue to work towards finally getting this nasty virus under control. Wishing everyone a happy and safe Easter weekend!

Be safe, be gentle, and always be kind.
