Now is the winter of our discontent. When shall it be made glorious summer, and all the clouds that pour upon our house be raining somewhere freakin’ else?
So my birthday has come and gone and I very much felt the love from my friends this year, thank you. My new health regime is shaping up, just as simple as a daily walk up the road (my dreadful march to delightful measure?). One kilometre up Conrad, an elevation of 100 metres, and back. That, and I have stopped dumping Smarties into my mask to use it like a feed bag.
In sweet music is such art ... Another promise I made is to practise more music. It has proven problematic to get together with the gifted bunch I usually hang out with so I play along to The Brothers in Farms on Spotify (Book IV: Possibilities, for the plug!).
Our community has a deep love of music and a legacy of one shining star gone too soon is to help build the next generation of talent so they may decorate our time. The Daniel Kingsbury Music for Youth Endowment Grant (DKMYF) is open to Sunshine Coast youth ages 13 to 19 who want financial assistance for music lessons, instruments, software, studio time or mentoring. Several grants, up to and including $500, will be awarded. Those who applied before may apply again. Deadline is 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19. Find the application at: suncoastarts.com/event/dkmfy-music-for-youth-grants
I don’t want to give too much away, but there is a new mystery here about. Brynndianna Jones, the Master of Records in the Pacific Northwest, has ascertained there is a hidden treasure buried somewhere in Roberts Creek! It’s the fabled loot of the legendary Captain Zann (valued in the range of $1200.00!), and Mr. Jones is hosting a treasure hunt on the Facebook page: The Tale of Captain Zann.
Looking out to the weekend, it’s the weather that is the news again. Bundle up, throw on extra blankets, and will you close that GD door? If the white stuff does show up, slow down and drive like you are going to slip any moment. Remember, for every kilometre of road in the Creek there are two kilometres of ditch!
The love of nature is one of the things that has drawn many of us here, and there are things we can do for our community and our environment (and ourselves), and to leave things better than we found them. Sunshine Coast Streamkeepers’ invasive plants removal fits the bill nicely. They get up to their shenanigans the last Saturday of each month and Jan. 30 is that day – 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lower Road bridge over the Creek known as Roberts (beside the Roberts Creek Legion).
Dress for creekside ivy removal, bring some small tools and wear PPE people! A pickup or trailer for a green waste run would be awesome!
