Jack Walton (centre) from Kinnikinnick Elementary School receives the Royal Canadian Legion BC/Yukon Command certificate and cheque acknowledging his winning poster in the Royal Canadian Legion’s 2020 Youth Remembrance Day contest. Retiring poppy chair Kay Metcalfe (right) and Damien Wallbank, Branch 140 first vice president, were on hand to congratulate Jack on his success in placing third in British Columbia following his first place wins in the colour poster primary category in both Sechelt and the Sunshine Coast. This contest is held every year preceding November 11 when English and Art teachers encourage pupils from Kindergarten to Grade 12 to exercise their creativity and submit a poster or essay or poem on Remembrance. “In Sechelt we have always been grateful for the many entries we receive and pleased to be able to award certificates and prize money to the winners,” Branch 140 said.
