What’s on your plate? is becoming a larger conversation at the dinner table.
On Oct. 4 at the Botanical Gardens in Sechelt, government, organizations, businesses and individual citizens came together to discuss the importance of this conversation as related to local food production and consumption.
Similar to a family gathering where many views are shared on topics of interest, the group around the table focused on explaining their respective challenges and objectives with respect to growing our local food security through a vibrant food system for the Sunshine Coast.
The latest draft of the Agricultural Area Plan for our community set the stage for the evening. Area director Donna Shugar described the SCRD board’s position on adopting such a plan.
The evening was very engaging and left the audience filled with optimism that generating collaborative strategies would enhance the Coast’s ability to achieve increased food security and increase the sustainability of farmers and all those involved in food matters on the Sunshine Coast.
The Rotary Club of Sechelt is committed to generate a single source communication channel for all food related matters. See www.secheltrotary.ca for more information and an introduction to the Club’s Incredible Edibles project.
