The Gibsons Lions Club presented a cheque this week to the Gibsons and District Volunteer Fire Department (GDVFD) for $600, representing 10 per cent of the proceeds raised by the Gibsons Lions from the annual Wendy’s Tim Hortons Festival of Lights.
The GDVFD for many years has assisted with setup and takedown for the Tim Hortons and Wendy’s Festival of Lights event, helping various organizations reach their fundraising goals.
The Gibsons Lions Club raises funds to help those in need and to support other worthwhile community projects. The GDVFD was wanting to set up a program to ensure more homes on the Sunshine Coast have adequate smoke detection; so with this donation the Gibsons Lions Club and GVFD have partnered in a pilot program to purchase smoke detectors for homes where there are no, or outdated, detectors and the occupants may not be able to afford to purchase their own protection.
