Nominations are open for Pender Harbour’s second annual Volunteer Awards.
As a community, Pender Harbour runs on the efforts of volunteers. This award is about recognizing the value of volunteers to the community and honouring specific people who, as volunteers, have contributed to significant improvements in the quality of life at Pender Harbour.
The Rotary Club of Pender Harbour had the inspiration for the award and is the major sponsor, while the Pender Harbour Advisory Council has developed the criteria and process. An independent committee nominated by the Advisory Council and Rotary will review the nominees and select the award winners.
The award winner will be announced at the Advisory Council’s town hall meeting on Oct. 7. The deadline for submissions is Aug. 15.
There will be awards for Volunteer of the Year, Lifetime Contribution and Youth Volunteer for the under 30s. The criteria the award judges will be looking for include:
• Exemplifies the spirit of community service.
• Is a leader and role model.
• Breaks new ground.
• Supports and encourages the development of others.
• Shows vision, initiative and creativity.
• Makes a difference.
• Is respected for their contributions.
