Voices of Egmont

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the Thrift Store book sale last weekend. The rumours were true - books were cheap! The next book sale is Dec. 11 in the community hall held in conjunction with Pizza and Poetry from 2 to 4 p.m.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the Thrift Store book sale last weekend. The rumours were true - books were cheap! The next book sale is Dec. 11 in the community hall held in conjunction with Pizza and Poetry from 2 to 4 p.m. Special guest at Pizza and Poetry will be Earl's Cove artist and poet George Connell. This is your chance to hear Connell read from his new book of poetry Underground Games. Bring your favourite poem to read and join us. Pizza and Poetry is offered in partnership with the Pender Harbour Community School, Capilano University and the Literacy Council.

Movie nights continue each Friday in the hall. This week's movies are Walt Disney's Robin Hood and Second Hand Lions. As always, the movies are free and doors open at 5 p.m. Pizza, hot dogs, baked goods, candy, hot chocolate and soft drinks will be available for purchase. All revenue will continue to go to the Heater Fund. In the mean time, don't forget your warm clothing and blankets.

The Egmont Christmas dinner is Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. Don't forget to sign-up and register your contribution at the post office. Turkey Bucks are requested and can be dropped off with Betty (Post Office) or Linda (Thrift Store) to help offset costs. Please bring a donation for the local food bank to the dinner.

The Elves Club will be distributing Christmas hampers again this year. Application forms are available from Betty. Please ensure completed forms are returned by Dec 8. Donations towards Christmas hampers are sought. Last year, more than 760 households on the Coast received hampers filled with food, gifts and other extras. The Elves Club Telethon is this Saturday, Dec. 4 at the Heritage Theatre in Gibsons from 2 to 10 p.m. If you can't get down to Gibsons in person, be sure to watch on Coast TV and make your pledge while enjoying the entertainment.

Please consider joining the Egmont and district volunteer fire department and new members are needed. Practices are Wednesdays starting at 7 p.m.

Bathgate General Store is now operating under winter hours Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
