Vicki Dobbyn's team from Community Services hosted a gala retirement party in her honour recently.

Colleagues, friends, and family attended to say thank you to one of the most prominent contributors to social services on the Coast.

Dobbyn retired from 27 years of service with Sunshine Coast Community Services Society (SCCSS) in June 2013. As executive director she was instrumental in leading the organization through growth and change.

Everyone associated with SCCSS will remember and appreciate Dobbyn as a leader who cared deeply about the needs of families and who was dedicated to supporting SCCSS employees in their important and often challenging work.

Speakers extolled her leadership and dedication: Nicholas Simons, MLA, Shelley McDade CEO of the Sunshine Coast Credit Union, Jean Fike representing the Federation of Community Social Services of BC, Fred Taylor SCCSS past president, and employees. Her sons, Jesse, Eli and Tony spoke about the sacrifices their mother has made, how proud they are of her achievements and what a great role model she is.

Karen Archer SCCSS board president announced the creation of an educational bursary in Dobbyn's name. Sustained by donations it will be presented annually to a local high school student who is pursuing studies in the social service field, a fitting legacy for one of the foremost women in our community.
