Two more host families needed

As part of the Canada World Youth (CWY) program, the Sunshine Coast has been chosen to host a group of 18 youth aged 17 to 24 from across Canada and South Africa from Aug. 27 to Nov. 15.

As part of the Canada World Youth (CWY) program, the Sunshine Coast has been chosen to host a group of 18 youth aged 17 to 24 from across Canada and South Africa from Aug. 27 to Nov. 15.

Two more local families are still needed for the program to host two young people, who are volunteering on a full-time basis, contributing more than 4,000 service hours to the Sunshine Coast.

CWY (www.canadaworldyouth.org) is a national non-profit organization that has been offering communities and youth unique international educational experiences since 1971.

What are the benefits of hosting? Make new friends, exchange ideas and gain new insights; change your routine with an enjoyable and exciting pair of youth; introduce your children to a different world perspective; experience your community through new eyes; become a part of the global village; and make a difference in the lives and education of two young people while having the time of your life.

Two participants will stay with each family during the CWY stay on the Coast. Host families are provided with a financial allowance of $168 per week for both participants. CWY covers all medical, insurance and program related expenses. Two project supervisors will reside on the Sunshine Coast to support the program.

"Family" is broadly defined by CWY to be inclusive and reflect the diversity of Canadian society. Host families can be anyone with a warm heart and genuine curiosity about the world (singles, retirees, blended families, same sex couples, etc.).

Arrangements can be made to accommodate family vacations throughout the fall. Back-up host families for short stays are also required. All that is needed is one spare bedroom.
