Laureen Rosborough, employee of Port Mellon’s Howe Sound Pulp and Paper (HSPP) and a member of the Kwakiutl First Nation, accepts her tradesperson’s certificate from Jason Holmes, HSPP’s electrical/instrumentation superintendent. Rosborough achieved her red seal trade certification as an instrument mechanic following a four-year program of study and on-the-job training. She received the highest mark in her group on the interprovincial red seal exam. Rosborough is one of only two women employed in the trades at HSPP. The remainder of the 99 tradespersons and apprentices working at HSPP are male, the company confirmed.
