Persephone Brewery in Gibsons is celebrating its second anniversary with a return of the Tough Kegger run on Aug. 29.
Persephone CEO Brian Smith said they already have more than double the contestants signed up compared to last year when they had 16 teams of four.
Several breweries from the Lower Mainland have already signed up teams to represent their breweries.
“It will be a fun way to celebrate our second year in business,” Smith said.
Tough Kegger runs from noon to 4 p.m. and will be followed by the anniversary party and beer tasting. Ten different breweries are participating in the tasting. Smith said he is anticipating between 200 and 300 guests.
There will also be live music and the Farm to Feast food truck if guests get hungry.
Teams of four compete in Tough Kegger by running a seven km trail through the forest near Sprockids Park with a full 50-pound pony keg.
This year they will be sending teams out in heats to make sure the trails don’t get too crowded, the forests aren’t damaged and no one gets hurt.
“The winner takes away a bunch of pride,” Smith said.
