The Sechelt Farmers' Market has come a long way in 31 years

Who knew when Bev and Costin Gidora founded the Sechelt Farmers’ Market 31 years ago where it would be today?

The first market was held by the then ambulance station, which is now a playground by the pier. It was soon moved to Raven’s Cry Theatre as the waterfront was far too windy for the vendors.

A couple of weeks ago, Bev was surrounded by friends and family to celebrate her 90th birthday at the Rockwood Centre just down the street from where the current market is today.

Costin passed away 22 years ago but Bev and children Dianne and Danny continued with the market and their garden stall on Redrooffs Road until recently.

Today the market has grown to upwards of 65 vendors and maintains the original focus on local growers, makers and bakers.

Along with a basket of vendor goodies, Bev was gifted an honorary lifetime membership to the Sechelt Farmers’ and Artisans’ Market by Jon Bell, current president of the market.

The market runs every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
