The new Cuban economic model

Cuba's people, culture and economy have proven remarkably resilient despite four decades of political and economic isolation.

Cuba's people, culture and economy have proven remarkably resilient despite four decades of political and economic isolation.

When geopolitical events conspired to deny Cuban farmers industrial fertilizers, they embraced sustainable agricultural practices and are now world leaders in the field, through policies of co-operation rather than competition.

Co-operation is also the heart of the work of the Human Change Group, founded by Dr. Patricia Arenas at the Centre for Psychological and Socio-logical Studies in Havana.

Arenas will speak at a public meeting on the subject of "Cuban Working Women and the New Cuban Economic Model" on Friday, July 29, 7 to 9 p.m. at the Kinsmen Hall in Dougall Park in Lower Gibsons.

Arenas is a globally respected psychologist and organization development researcher who leads a network of more than 200 professionals throughout Cuba.

The evening is co-sponsored by the S.C. Labour Council, the S.C. Senior Citizens and the S.C. Teachers' Association.

Admission is free.
