Blacksmithing can be traced back over 2,500 years, when the Hittites discovered the process of forging iron, and birthed the craft that would shape modern civilization. The origin of “smith” is debated, but it may come from the old English word “smythe” meaning “to strike”. As you already know, I am a smith, and a drummer, so I hit things. There is a saying among smiths, “Get it hot, hit it hard!” I will bring my hard-hitting drum skills to our little Legion this Saturday night, Nov. 6, as one half of Blacksmith and Brewer, as we two, and DJ Busy B, get the crowd hot for the arrival of the headliners, Vancouver’s the Imperial. Be there or be a shape with four sides of equal length and four 90-degree corners. Book at rclegionevents.com, or if you are late to the party, email [email protected] or call 604-886-9813 for last minute reservations.
Our Legion, taking advantage of the freedoms that science has afforded us by way of a vaccine, is now open Tuesday to Saturday. Tuesdays are Jam Nights, with your hosts Michelle Morand & Alex Rolland. Maudy is in the kitchen, cooking up the proverbial storm, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 5 p.m. ‘till the food runs out. And this week is Brain Freeze Trivia Friday @ 6:45 p.m.! Besides a call out for volunteers to help with the door, etc., the 219 is seeking local, heavier acts (rock/punk/metal/ska) to join the bill alongside out-of-town acts, so crank your Marshalls and Gallien Kruegers (available at Melomania!) and email [email protected] to get on the bill!
Lest we forget, next Thursday is the 11th day of the 11th month and time to pause to recognize the sacrifices made by those who fought for our freedoms. Similar to last year, Local #219 is planning a short ceremony, the lawn will be open, however they ask that you consider viewing from home to reduce the opportunity for community spread of COVID-19. Join the livestream event on facebook.com/robertscreeklegion at 11 a.m.
