Sumac Place presents film

Mental Awareness Week

Sumac Place is hosting a film screening to kick off Mental Awareness Week 2017. The film, Understanding the Broken Mind, is a documentary that shares the experiences of the first psychotic episodes, hospitalization, treatment and recovery of three unique and accomplished individuals. It reveals that schizophrenia is a complicated mental health condition that can be understood and overcome.

After the film, a question period will be held with Amanda Schell, documentary participant and Courage to Come Back Award recipient.

The screening will be held on Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Heritage Playhouse. Doors are at 6:30 p.m. and the film will be shown at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 (but no one will be turned away due to lack of funds). A silent auction will be held to raise money for a Christmas party for community members living with mental health challenges.
