For the past two school years, Sunshine Coast Alternative School students have participated in Me to We, a program where students look beyond themselves (Me) to help make the world around them (We) a better place.
Students are challenged to take on both a local and a global action project. This year the students returned the empties from their classroom and other donated bottles to send money to Africa as part of their global action project.
For their local project, they made up over 30 bag lunches and collected warm clothing. The students took these items into Vancouver and distributed them to people at the corner of Main and Hastings.
Because the students followed through with this local project, Telus, in partnership with Me to We, provided $1,000 to be donated in the school’s name to the local charity of choice.
The students chose the local food bank and the cheque was presented at the school.
