Sign up for Wooden Boat Challenge

April Tools

The possibilities for the April Tools Wooden Boat Challenge currently being prototyped by the Pender Harbour Living Heritage Society will surprise and entertain, but won’t be revealed till 10 a.m. on April 29 – the morning of the race.

It’s not too late to get your own team of up to four builders together and take a shot at the reward: $700 for first place, $400 for second and $250 for third.

For the less floatable there are always trophies for good looks (Spiffy Skiffy) and major effort (Broken Paddle).

High schoolers will pit their building and racing skills against each other in the Trophy Race, and whatever happens in their Fun Race will happen (always seems to involve swimming). The little kids will relentlessly pound away at their mini-boats and proudly take them home to add to their collections.

Rain or shine, it will be a good time at Millennium Park (government wharf) in Madeira Park April 29 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. for the 16th annual April Tools.

To sign up visit www.apriltools.ca or call Jackie at 604-883-0539.  Kids’ activities are free, and an adult team of up to four can sign up for $160 ($140 if received before April 1).
