The Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary (SCHA) had a successful Christmas sale on Nov. 14 and raised about $6,000 for health care on the Sunshine Coast.
This was the third annual auxiliary Christmas sale and this year it was held in the Sechelt Seniors Activity Centre. The first sale was held in the auxiliary thrift store, but the event became so popular it had to be moved to a bigger location.
Joanne Martin has been volunteering for 13 years with the SCHA and said she loves the work that she does.
“I needed something to do. I had lost my husband and I was looking for something to do and I have been involved for 13 years,” Martin said. “It’s a very well organized thing that we do, and all the money goes to the hospital.”

Chair of the Sechelt Auxiliary Thrift Store Jane Bader said that they had to move the Christmas sale out of the thrift store after its first year because the event was such a hit that they didn’t have room for everything. Bader said she got involved because she enjoys her work.
“It’s fun. If it’s not fun, I don’t do it, but this is fun,” Bader said.
SCHA member Cathy Morreau said the sale took about three months to organize with the help of about 40 or so volunteers.
“It’s a monumental job and we are never ever letting them retire,” Morreau said.
