Sail Pass set for this Sunday

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful week. Our temperatures remain somewhat mild for this time of year and so far, we haven’t seen any snow at lower levels. Love seeing it on the mountains and hills around us, not so much on the roads.

Hi everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful week. Our temperatures remain somewhat mild for this time of year and so far, we haven’t seen any snow at lower levels. Love seeing it on the mountains and hills around us, not so much on the roads.

The Families in Need campaign hosted by the Halfmoon Bay Community Association has been incredible to say the least! Donations have exceeded the original goal and all the funds will go towards the school and families in the community.

When Jay presented a cheque to Wendy White, the school coordinator, she had tears in her eyes. Wendy said, “It is quite overwhelming to receive that kind of support from the community, such a bright light during a rough time in our history. We are so lucky to have such a caring and supportive staff, which makes all the difference.” With the donation total growing, the volunteers and organizers were able enhance the Christmas hampers, adding a little extra love as well as creating more than the previous year.

Wendy said that receiving cash donations has been awesome, the offers to volunteer are overwhelming as well! Donations are welcome until Dec. 24. Go to https://ca.gofundme.com/f/halfmoon-bay if you would like to donate. All donations are greatly appreciated and will go to those that need it most. Huge thank-you to EVERYONE involved!

Plans for the 2020 Sail Pass scheduled on Sunday, Dec. 20 are moving along nicely with at least 12 boats signed up to participate. It’s not too late to join in so send Lynn an email at [email protected], adding 2020 Sail Pass in the subject line. As there is a public health order for not having social gatherings at this time, all participants will remain on their own vessels, with only their household on board. There has been a lot of interest for those wanting to view the boats from shore, so please adhere to the social distancing guidelines and wear a mask. These boaters have banded together to bring a little Christmas joy to the community, why not pay it forward and make a donation to a local charity or food bank? The weather forecast is calling for showers so as long as there is no wind, the first annual Sail Pass is on!

Check your mailbox! Although we believe that our little community of Halfmoon Bay is a peaceful and safe place to live, some vandalism and theft does occur from time to time. It has been reported that several community mailboxes were broken into earlier this month and police are investigating. It is suggested to check your mailbox every day and possibly organize a block watch or patrol, in the evening. Of course, the patrol would only be to observe and report, no confrontation is recommended. The mail is delivered during the day, so any packages left in the parcel mailboxes overnight are easy targets for thieves that are in the area. I’m sure we’ve all said, “I’ll get the mail tomorrow” and then forgotten for a few days so let’s make it a habit each day and not allow these thieves to take our precious items.

From our house to yours, wishing you a very Merry Christmas! Enjoy, stay safe, and always be kind. Have your “Say at the Bay,” please contact me before 5 p.m. on Mondays. [email protected].
