The Rotary Club of the Sunshine Coast’s Coronavirus Survival Kits went viral last weekend. Generous – and safety-minded – shoppers at Trail Bay Mall snapped up the kits so enthusiastically, the first batch of 100 kits were gone by noon Sunday.

The club gave away the kits for free, in exchange for a donation to the food bank. More than $1,500 was raised to help vulnerable members of our community weather the COVID-19 storm.

Each kit contained a cloth face mask provided by a local sewing circle, a removable filter, sanitizer hand spray distilled by Bruinwood Estate Distillery in Roberts Creek, lavender soap provided by the Lavender Farm in West Sechelt and, just in case the shelves were bare, a roll of toilet paper.

The local businesses and mask-makers have stepped up again, and club members are busy assembling another batch of survival kits to hand out this weekend outside Claytons.

The club thanks you for your support of the food bank and for doing everything you can to keep our community safe.
