Quilters join Hands Across the Water

Sunshine Coast Quilters’ Guild
Quilters

Hands Across the Water (HAW) was hosted by Sunshine Coast Quilters’ Guild (SCQG) at Holy Family Parish Hall on Sept. 21. HAW is a day when members from quilt guilds on the Sunshine Coast, Quadra Island, Campbell River, Comox, Courtenay, Powell River and Texada Island gather.

Over 100 attendees responded to the invitation. Each year one of the guilds hosts the event. It is a wonderful time to bring quilters together to meet and share a common interest.

The morning started off with coffee and muffins. There was mingling and catching up among members and checking out the wares of four vendors who attended. One of the challenges was to sew a placemat with a fall theme. The winner was chosen by Viewers’ Choice and received a prize and all the placemats are being donated to Meals on Wheels.

There were generous door prizes supplied by vendors and members of the host guild (SCQG) and every attendee received a thread catcher/pin cushion. There was a free table and show and tell, and the winning quilts from the recent SCQG Quilt Show decorated the walls. A tasty lunch was supplied by local caterer Jonnita and a speaker, Kevin Williams from Dragonfly Quilting and Gifts, presented his trunk show. In recognition of what quilt guilds do for their communities, Dragonfly Quilting donated a roll of batting to each guild in attendance.

Next year’s HAW event will be held in Powell River.
