Pender Harbour & Egmont: Rotary pays tribute to frontline workers

Horns will be blowing and flags will be flying on Friday, May 1 between 7 and 8 p.m.

Horns will be blowing and flags will be flying on Friday, May 1 between 7 and 8 p.m. as the Pender Harbour Rotary Club drives through local neighbourhoods in tribute to all frontline workers in all professions, extending sincere thanks and gratitude for their education, caring and bravery during this COVID-19 Pandemic.

The Pender Harbour Community School encourages folks to get creative. Check out their website and Facebook page for offering of online and interactive programs. The Harbour Learning Centre is closed but you can always leave a message at 604-883-2826 and your inquiry will be answered.

The transitioning to the new norm has become full of enjoyments that the gift of time has allowed.

Leaving the saturation of sorrowful COVID-19 reports and tragedies, sticking to just the need to know, my mood and motivation were restored. The wealth of music available is big and rich. Getting to know local rising stars and enjoying well known favourites has been fantastic. Earls Cove’s Matt Richards, Pender Harbour’s Mark Brezer, Joan and Ted and Sandy Matches, founder of the Sunshine Coast Quarantined Facebook page, have given great performances with original and cover songs. The talented, famous Simon Paradis has created great new music with his beautiful partner Kara Stanley as well as virtually supporting us with his 3 p.m. Coastal Home Companion – Stay Cozy works for us! Joe Stanton performs 6 p.m. Thursdays for two fantastic sets. You are welcomed to come and sit awhile. What a treat!

Music and food is a decadent combination during a pandemic that I am delving deeply into and you can too. Here in the Harbour, Aqui es Mexico Restaurante has a full menu of their signature, authentic dishes for you to take home. Mama’s Japanese Kitchen continues with delicious, inexpensive takeout. In addition to their menu, check out the specials and the variety of bento boxes to go. Tamales to go, those heavenly packages of pure joy (a special treat at our previous fairs), are ready and waiting, frozen six packs for you to steam and enjoy at [email protected]

While many projects have ground to a halt, PODS has rocketed ahead with a generous pledge of $8.4 million from the Chip Wilson family’s foundation. Chip is a part-time resident on this part of the Coast. PODS is planning to break ground at Irvines Landing later this year. Congratulations!
