Pender Harbour-Egmont Highlights: Egmont Day is a couple weeks away

The annual Egmont Day parade is June 1 at 11 a.m. The BBQ fires up at noon.

The P.H. Music Society presents Mimosa May 26, 2 p.m. at the School of Music. Mimosa draws on jazz, Brazilian sambas, French ‘60s pop, and cabaret music to concoct its own unique sound: gorgeous melodies, quirky lyrics, incredible groove and sky-high improvisations. They have three critically acclaimed CDs and sold-out festival appearances all over Canada. Do not miss this harbour favourite Vancouver quintet. Tickets available of the PHMS website.

The P.H. Garden Club on May 27 is pleased to host Erin Wilson, the FireSmart representative for the SCRD and lieutenant with the Halfmoon Bay Fire Department. As a deployed firefighter, she has confronted the intensity and unpredictability of wildfires, fostering a deep understanding of their destructive potential. Erin’s professional background in education and forestry enriches her approach to wildfire management. “FireSmart for your Home and Garden,” her presentation, will discuss the effective implementation of FireSmart landscaping best practices, emphasizing the utilization of the FireSmart Plant Guide. Pender Harbour School of Music, 1 to 3 p.m., $20 annual membership or $5 drop-in fee, complimentary tea/coffee and goodies.

May 28 marks the final regular meeting of the Pender Harbour Women’s Connection for spring 2024. It promises to be a fun-filled event with guest performer, Eddy Edrick, well-known local vocalist and instrumentalist. Eddy was born in London, U.K. in 1949. Other boys on his street may have wanted to be football stars but he had his sights set on music. This goal was not immediately reached as he married young and settled into being a father of three while working as a building contractor. Learn the rest of this popular Madeira Park entertainer’s story and enjoy his delightful music. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. Drop-in fee of $4 includes refreshments. Location: School of Music.  

Harbourside Friendship, Thursday, May 30 come join the gathering for a “Surprise!” at 10:30 a.m. at the Hall. Lunch served at noon for $10.

Egmont Day June 1 starts off with the Kids Fishing Derby at 8:30 a.m. The Parade is at 11 a.m. BBQ fires up at noon. Live music by Spindrift Street and Sean Peters. Bouncy castle, jet ski rides, face painting, dunk tank, cake walk, kids’ field games, vendors, equals endless fun for all! Sunday, June 2, the Sunshine Coast Community orchestra with Jose Ceron conducting, will grace the stage at the Pender Harbour community Hall at 2:30 p.m. Admission at the door $20.
