Western Australia will be the focus as traveller and retired teacher Sheila Page gives an illustrated presentation to the Sunshine Coast Natural History Society in Sechelt on Friday, March 2.
Page will share details about the plants, birds and outdoor scenes of Western Australia, in several biodiverse hotspots, including some of the unusual methods of plants achieving their pollination. She will also provide a guided 135 km coastal walking tour south of Perth in the Leeuwin Naturaliste National Forest to see more outstanding flowers, indigenous birds and animals, as well as some outstanding surf beaches.
Page was raised in Vancouver, and childhood experiences in Howe Sound during the 1950s led to a lifelong connection with the forest and the sea. She first moved to the Sunshine Coast in 1966 and returned to teach elementary school from the mid-70s to 2002. She enjoys community events, travel through home exchanges, kayak camping, hiking and painting. She is also very active in the Sechelt Arts Centre.
The presentation will be in the Sechelt Arts Centre, at the corner of Medusa and Trail, at 7:30 p.m. Coffee and cookies will be served. Visitors welcome.
