The Roberts Creek Community Legacy Garden is planned for completion in the Spring.

“Phase 1 will see the building of a 20 foot by 20 foot pavilion supporting a living roof. In Phase 2 community and school members will be invited to help implement the landscaping design, and Phase 3 will focus on various artistic and child-centric features,” said Roberts Creek Community School Co-ordinator, Sheila Wilson.

“The outpouring of community support has been astonishing,” she said.

The community garden is located next to Roberts Creek Elementary.

Still needed are heavy cedar and fir logs to support the pavilion’s unique living roof, also offers of machinery to move materials. If you can donate these items please contact Wilson at [email protected].

Also ongoing is Nights Alive, evenings of fun games and sports held every Friday in the Roberts Creek Elementary gym from 5 to 8 p.m. for grades 6 and 7 students. The supervised evenings emphasize resiliency and positive social interaction and are a Roberts Creek Community School initiative in partnership with the Sunshine Coast Outreach Team.

The 1st Roberts Creek Guides welcomes girls in grades 4 to 6 from all Coast communities, says Guiding organizer Analissa Adam. This group has had an active few months from a sleepover at the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre in December to a Guiding conference in Vancouver in January. On Saturday, Feb. 24, they’ll gather with other Coast Guides at the Gibsons Rec Centre for World Thinking Day 2018, celebrated by 10 million Girl Guides world-wide and an opportunity to speak out on issues affecting young women around the world.

Also extending a welcoming hand and inviting new members is the 6th Roberts Creek Scout Group. Group Commissioner Kath-erine Trueman says the Scouts meet at the wonderful Camp Byng. Beavers (ages 5 to 7) meet Tuesdays from 5:15 to 6:30 p.m.; Cubs ( 8 to 10) Tuesdays 6 to 7:30 p.m. and Sea Scouts (11 to 14) on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. The Group is co-ed.

“We enjoy outdoor activities such as hikes, camps and excursions as well as games and crafts and have recently constructed Beaver Buggies, Kub Kars and Scout Trucks,” she said. Sounds like fun!

They’ll be holding their annual rally at Trail Bay Mall on Saturday March 3 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will sell Krispy Kreme Donuts as a fundraiser. For more information and to join this active group, call Trueman at 604-885-2282 or 604-741-7282.
