Obituary: James (Jim) Chisholm

It is with deep sadness that the family of James (Jim) Chisholm, a resident of the Sunshine Coast for the past 13 years, advises of his death on October 27, 2023. Jim was born in Toronto, Ontario on December 30, 1934 to parents Morley and Florence Chisholm.

Jim was predeceased by his daughter Kim of New Westminster B.C., and brothers Bruce of Lindsay, Ontario and Jack of Okotoks, Alberta.

Cherishing family memories are Ann, his loving wife of 37 years; son Ken (Norma) of Summerland, B.C.; son Jeff of Surrey B.C.; daughter Lisa Martens (Doug) of Surrey B.C.; three grandchildren Natasha (Eli), Shawna and Lindsay (Drew); ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was always at his best as a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to so many.

In the late 50’s Jim was a manager in the plastics industry in Ontario and transferred to British Columbia in 1961. In the early 70’s Jim followed his heart and was hired as a staff member of the BC conference of The United Church of Canada serving in the areas of finance, property stewardship and administration. In the 80’s Jim was Special Gifts Officer for the General Council residing back in Toronto. In the late 80’s Jim and Ann along with Lisa returned to Surrey B.C.  Jim served as an elected School Board Trustee for District 36, Surrey from 1991 to 1999.

In retirement Jim served a 36 month term as a lay minister at Northwood United Church in Surrey, B.C. He also served as a volunteer on the Sunshine Coast with Arrowhead Clubhouse Society, Sunshine Coast Festival of the Performing Arts and St. John’s United Church in Sechelt. 

In lieu of flowers, you may wish to make a gift to The United Church of Canada, Mission and Service.  A celebration of Jim’s life will be held November 24 at 11am at St. John’s United Church in Sechelt, B.C.
