March 24, 1937 - May 21, 2025
Ed passed away peacefully with his two sons by his side on a beautiful sunny afternoon. One of his favourite pastimes was sitting in the warm sun in his seaside paradise, where he retired with his life partner and high school sweetheart Jean in 1994. Sadly she passed in 2014 but Ed stood fast and worked the homestead for another 11 years. His pre-retirement working life consisted of the Vancouver Fire Department, the BC Telephone Company and numerous entrepreneurial ventures. Ed was an extraordinary golfer and curler who always rose to the challenge of competition. He was a BC champ curler with the VFD and BC Tel. He won the senior men’s golf Championship in 2013 at Blue Ocean. He was an avid mariner and contributor to SHORA for all of his 32 years on the Sunshine Coast. His adventures with friends and family, on his boat ‘Catch Ya Later’, are worthy of many campfire stories.
He was supported incredibly by numerous VCH personnel who are angels. We can’t say enough about the care he received while remaining in his own home for the 2 years preceding his Silverstone Hospice admission where the attentiveness he received was also outstanding. A special mention goes out to Savana and the other members of the hospice team who treated Ed compassionately and with utmost respect. A huge thank you to Dr. Goojha for the role she played in Ed’s life.
He is survived by his sons Dan (Krys) and Rich (Marilyn), grandchildren Steven, Andrea, Jessica, Kevin and Celia and great grandchildren Teagan and Brody. He leaves his family with a legacy of provision, how to “invest” wisely, how to build something from scratch, the importance of doing the job right the first time (ok maybe the second time for some), how to catch, fillet, marinate and "properly" smoke a salmon and how to expertly tie a bowline. We are so proud that he always had a firm hand on the tiller and was in total control until the end.
Catch Ya Later Dad, Papa, Ed!
