Hi everyone! Hope you had a great week and were safe during the “cyclone bomb” last weekend. There were so many power outages, trees down, debris everywhere and a lot of rain, but it seems the Sunshine Coast managed quite well through it all.
Special thanks to all the Hydro crews who braved the extreme wind and rain to restore power. Our power was out for at least five hours in Halfmoon Bay while other areas had no power for a few more hours based on information gathered on social media and the BC Hydro site. The special weather statements were posted days in advance, and it was expected that the extreme wind and fallen trees could cause outages. Thankfully, there were no reports of severe damage to property or any injuries. The efforts of all involved is greatly appreciated and we are extremely grateful to have the crews ready and on site during these storms.
If you have driven along Redrooffs lately, you may have noticed a new sign that has been installed near the 8700 block. It is a huge thank-you to all the health-care workers, first responders and essential workers. Creating this sign was inspired by a local couple that wanted to show their continued support to all those who work so hard making our daily lives that much easier. While out and about, share an extra smile and thank-you to those around you. It’s sure to make someone’s day a little brighter.
The Halfmoon Bay Branch of the Sunshine Coast Healthcare Auxiliary recently had a special fundraising Thrift Store day. Moira Sarling advised that “149 sales were made, raising approximately $1,700.” Among a variety of items for sale there was some fine art and home décor which was sold for reasonable prices. The special “sale of the day” was a gold cross necklace. Moira advised that their “members were available for two shifts during the sale and the branch is very happy with the results. All the volunteer time and effort was well worth it.”
The Pumpkin Trail is almost here! It’s not too late to carve a pumpkin and bring it to the Halfmoon Bay Elementary School by today, Friday, Oct. 29 or place it on the trail between Lohn and Hart roads any time after 4:30 p.m. on Halloween night. Include a tea light, candle or battery-operated. Volunteers will light the pumpkins just before dark. To arrange for drop-off at the school, please contact Wendy at [email protected] or call 604-551-8461. Volunteers from the Halfmoon Bay Community Association will be set up at the Lohn Road end of the trail to offer a little extra Halloween fun. The next day, the pumpkins will be collected and taken to a local farm for all the animals to enjoy. Happy Halloween everyone and watch out for all those ghosts and goblins out there!
