National Indigenous Peoples Day, June 21, was marked by the local chapter of the United Canadian Métis Nation with a celebration at Sechelt’s Seaside Centre. Gayle and Ted MacDonald (centered in the top photo) were presented with an eagle feather by members of the group’s executive for their efforts in support of the Métis culture. Below (left) Cassidy Pressley shows off salmon prepared for the event’s potluck lunch. Below (Right) board membership representative Chris Walker poses with a model of a red river cart, which was displayed with Métis sashes for the occasion. June 21 also marked the beginning of the syíyaya Days festival, which runs to July 1.
