The Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) Sunshine Coast held an open house Sept. 19 at the Sunshine Coast Botanical Gardens. In compliance with COVID guidelines, all attendees showed proof of vaccines and wore masks. We enjoyed seeing everyone’s smiling eyes and there was lots of lively conversation, laughter and positive energy as guests mingled inside and on the patio overlooking the garden. It was a great opportunity to reconnect with old friends and welcome newcomers.

Displays about the club were placed around the room – how to become a member, the bursary society and interest groups and club members. After the brief program where speakers described benefits of membership in the club, everyone enjoyed refreshments with a backdrop of wonderful music provided by Heidi and Bud Kurz playing guitar, flute and harp.

CFUW Sunshine Coast raises money for bursaries going to women who reside on the Sunshine Coast so that they can further their education. We have awarded 200 bursaries worth over $244,000.

Membership is open to any woman who supports the purpose of the club and you do not need to be a college graduate.

Our club partners with other community groups to address social issues and advocate for change. We have various interest groups such as book clubs, wine tasters, and hiking. For over 35 years, the CFUW Sunshine Coast has provided friendship and social connection for local women while we work to promote human rights and the advancement of women and girls through education and advocacy. Our organization is part of a national organization, CFUW, with over 95 clubs and 7,000 members across Canada advocating for positive change for women.
