Hi everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful week and enjoyed some time in the great outdoors! It is nice to see some rainy days here and there along with beautiful warm sunny ones as well.

The Sunshine Coast Marine Rescue Society (SCMRS) recently reached out to say they are looking for volunteers to serve on the board. SCMRS is the fiduciary arm (board of directors) of the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue, Station 12 – Halfmoon Bay (RCMSAR12). This society is a non-profit organization whose purpose is the financial support of RCMSAR12. The society’s activities include fundraising, financial and asset management, and donor recognition. They are essentially the “behind the scenes” volunteers who help the RCMSAR12 continue to be out on the water to keep boaters safe. Some of the specific skills the society is looking for include administration/secretarial, grant writing, media communication and fundraising. For more information or to submit an expression of interest, please contact John Maddalozzo at info@rcmsar.org. All of the volunteers involved are very much appreciated and we are very grateful for their commitment to safety and the community. If you would like to make a donation or find more information about RCMSAR-12, visit their website at rcmsar12.org.

Our daffodils, tulips and spring flowers are almost gone, and now it’s time for early summer vegetables, plants, blooms and shrubs to show their beauty and provide their bounty. If you are in need of any growing medium, manure, peat moss, lava rock or anything “garden,” the Halfmoon Bay Nursery is there for you. They provide a complete garden centre right in the heart of Halfmoon Bay. The staff are knowledgeable, helpful and ready to assist with your garden needs and questions.

The nursery is located at 7820 Fawn Rd. Visit them Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. or call 604-885-2760 during business hours or send an email to halfmoonbaynursery@hotmail.com. They receive new products each week so be sure to stop by and check them out.

Mother’s Day is this Sunday, May 9 and although some of us are not able to visit with our moms at this time, our love and appreciation for them is never ending. The commercial side of Mother’s Day seems to centre around the giving of flowers, jewelry cards or treats and it has been noted that the average cost for a gift for mom will exceed $50. Gift spending on this day ranks second behind what most consumers spend for individual Christmas gifts. Moms do appreciate and enjoy what their loved ones provide as well as going out for brunch or dinner, but sometimes a simple phone call, a short visit or a handmade gift may be all she wants. Regardless of what gifts are given or special meals are shared, moms are wonderful, appreciated, loved and adored and we honour you on this day and always. Love to all the moms out there and hope you enjoy your special day!

Be safe, be gentle, and always be kind.

Have your “Say at the Bay,” please contact me before 5 p.m. on Mondays. cindy.kisser@telus.net
