Squamish Nation educator Tsawaysia Spukwus will host a sacred drum making workshop at the Sunshine Coast Museum and Archives in Gibsons on Saturday, June 27.
Tsawaysia, whose English name is Alice Guss, has spent 20 years working with First Nation communities as a director of education and 15 years delivering sacred drum making workshops.
She is the daughter of the late Ernie Harry (Pekultn), a hereditary chief from the Seymour Creek area on the Lower Mainland.
At the Gibsons workshop, she will lead participants through the process of making their own sacred drum while sharing Squamish Nation songs and stories. Participants will have the option of building drums ranging in size from three inches to 14 inches, with the cost running from $10 to $150 depending on the size of the drum.
The workshop runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
